Rainbow Bridge Poems

Painted Puppy Pet Urn

Pet loss poems to help you cope.

pet memorial urn is a wonderful way to keep the memory of your little angel close to your heart. All the good, happy memories are saved up there. But sometimes we are in so much grief that we cannot focus on the good times, just our loss. Allow yourself this time to mourn your loss. I am starting a collection of Rainbow Bridge poems that will help you start heal your grieving heart.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

A rainbow.Of dogs.Of cats.Of mice.Of hamsters.Of horses.Of all pets big and small. All animals of every color, shape and size. All together.Playing.Laughing.Waiting.Happily.With gladness. With joy.Their wait is painless.Without sorrow.Without sadness. For they trust. They believe. They know. That someday they will see you again. They only ask one thing. That you believe as well.Keep them close in your heart. You will be forever in theirs.Trust that they wait for you.

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that’s trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, an on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful – lush and green and wide
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I’m alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright glow pierced the night
“Twas the glow of many candles, shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in it’s brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be
We are still connected by a cord no one can see
So whenever you need to find me, we’re never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart

Cathy Guyan-1995

When you are sorrowful
look into your heart
and you shall see that
you are weeping
for that which has been
your delight
-Kahlil Gibran

Your Loved One lives In Your Heart
Many tender memories soften your grief,
May fond recollection bring you relief,
And may you find comfort and peace in the thought
Of the joy that knowing your loved one brought…
For time and space can never divide
Or keep your loved one from your side
When memory paints in colors true
The happy hours that belonged to you.

The Temple of Love Lost

The silence.

The peace.

Magic light.

Of all that we remember. Of all that we love.

A collar.

A toy.

A photo.

A box. Of ashes.

Altars constructed. Memories felt. Hearts breaking.

In unearthly quiet I wander the memories, I read the memorials scribbled on the temple walls. Every spot filled with a memory, a regret, a promise. Releasing the past to be open to the future. I cried.

We were all crying there. Together.

And it was okay.

Love Lost

My love.

My heart.

My furry little soulmate.

My heart is heavy. Low. Empty. Lost.

Without you. Near. Happy. Bouncy. Loving.

Now there is none of that.

You are gone.

Part of my heart is gone.

Away. Far away.

I cannot find it. I cannot find you.

I grieve. I mourn. I sit empty.

For you brought so much to me. To my heart. To my day. To my world.

You were a gift. Like no other.

You are missed.

You are loved.

I only take solace in that you are at peace.

For that I am grateful. Happy. Safe.

Thank you for every moment.

Thank you.

So very much…

I fear.

Being alone.

Losing a love.

But what I fear is false.

We are not alone.

Our love lives on.

Death is not what we think it is.

Moments in time is what we have.

And these moments are precious.

They are the key to eternity.

They are the window to eternity.

We can hold them precious.

We can believe in them.

We can be together always.

Because we already are.

I will laugh again. Sometime soon.

In my heart.

That special place.

That was yours.

Now sits empty.

Dark and cold.

And I cry for you.

I cry for me.

For you are in a good place.

Filled with light.

And you wait for me.

Like you have always done.

And that give me the strength to go on.

To smile.

To be glad.

And I will laugh again, too.

Sometime soon.

The Heat of Summer.

Heat. Real heat. So that our blood slows. Our thoughts slow. Sadness cannot be shaken. Nothing moves in the still heat of the afternoon.

It can be so heavy.

So slow.

So hot.

Two thoughts cannot coalesce into any action.

A blessing can live in that space. We can allow our minds to empty. Let go of the weight of sadness. Allow it to be wet blanket just too heavy to pick up.

And we can just rest. Let our mind heal itself of loss.

Of grief.

Of sadness.

When it is too hot to cry.

When it is too hot to think about the pain.

Find a place of peace there.

Of rest.

Of just being.

Pour an ice tea. Rest your feet. Allow your mind to empty.

It’s all we need to do.
